5 Reasons Why We Need Morality

Morality is the human attempt to be able to define right from wrong. It has proven to be of big value in an individual’s life and social life. In a community, we try to teach our kids how to differentiate a right from a wrong and what we simply teach them is in actuality just basic morality. Morality is not just an old topic derived from psychology; this is because it is close to our notion of the significance of life. The trademark of moralization is that the regulation it invokes tends to be collective. To understand morality, we need to know the reason why we need it.

Healthy Relationships

Morality is vital in the relationship we have with the maker of the laws, and ultimately God. For example, the Bible has got a number of things which we must do for us to be granted God’s favor. For instance, it tells us to love God first and love one’s neighbor as oneself. This shows that God can punish some behavior and bless others

Individual’s Well-being

Personal morality is vital for an individual’s wellbeing and for his/her relationship with fellow humans. More so it helps a person not only to be law-abiding but also to treat others with respect and dignity. For example, if an individual has good moral values, he can be able to eradicate problems like violence, dishonesty, and jealousy from his life.

To Cope with Life

Life is hard and filled with sorrow and pain. With moral values, one can be able to deal with tough situations in life. Without moral values, one can experience life’s harshness at a higher degree than most individuals do. If this happens, one cannot be able to appreciate life

The Base in which we form Opinions

Morality is the utmost thing we care so much about when forming an opinion or an impression about a person. We tend to care so much about an individual morality more so than virtually any other factor, including one’s sociability, competence and a diversity of other personality traits. It is a potent factor in the evaluation of others on a universal level.

A General Key to Self-motivation

Morality helps one not only to overcome problems but also to learn to become what one truly values. According to those who teach morality, for one to become moral, it requires sufficient emotional development for one to be guilty of his/her wrongs. On the other hand, morals help one to value the goals and principles he believes in.

In a nutshell, it is clear that morality is a vital component in the interpersonal domain. It helps us to be able to have healthy relationships and cope with life situations. Additionally, it is a key to self-motivation and a base in which we form opinions on others. As human beings act upon their thoughts and emotions whereby they pursue pleasure and avoid pain, being moral ensures that one is able to decide between the good and the bad. Hence, one’s well-being.
